Holiday School Closure Extended; 9 New Cases Of COVID In NS

Students in Nova Scotia public schools will have an extra-long holiday break this year because of COVID-19.

The break starts a week from today and students will go back on January 11th.  

Premier Stephen McNeil made the announcement this afternoon. 

The province also announced today it’s renewing its COVID-19 State of Emergency as it reports 9 new cases of the virus.   

Five of the cases are in the Central Zone with three in the Western Zone and one in the Northern Zone.

Another case was found today at Shannon Park Elementary in Dartmouth.

The government has also announced it’s shut down a chicken plant in the Annapolis Valley for two weeks after COVID-19 cases were found there.

The province’s renewed state of emergency will take effect at noon on Sunday and will stay in effect until December 27th unless the government ends or extends it.
