Air Canada Suspending Sydney Service

Air Canada will be indefinitely suspending all of its service at the Sydney-McCurdy Airport starting on January 11th.

Airport CEO Mike MacKinnon says the move is catastrophic for Cape Breton with the airport now losing all air service after earlier suspensions by both Air Canada and Westjet.

MacKinnon says the airport is a vital service to many families, workers and businesses on the island and he’s calling on Ottawa and the province to do something to help the aviation industry get through the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Cape Breton-Canso MP Mike Kelloway says he spoke to Transport Minister Marc Garneau and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland after hearing about today’s news.

He says both ministers are working on solutions to help the airport.
