Well Known Cape Breton Fiddler Winnie Chafe Dies

Well known Cape Breton fiddler Winnie Chafe has died.

A brief note on the website Tribute Archive says Chafe died yesterday and an obituary will follow.

The Glace Bay native was the first woman to win the International Fiddling Championship held in Pembroke, Ontario in 1964.

Chafe regularly appeared on local live television in Cape Breton and performed throughout Canada in concerts and in television and radio broadcasts.

She taught violin both privately and in the local school system, and was an associate professor of Celtic studies at Cape Breton University.
