Fall Session To Be Prorogued

The fall session of the legislature is being prorogued on December 18th and the next session won’t happen until the governing Liberals have a new leader this winter.

The Speaker’s Office made the announcement this afternoon.

The next session is scheduled to start on February 16th with the Lieutenant-Governor reading the Speech from the Throne.

The Liberals elect their new leader on February 6th.

Today’s decision comes as Premier Stephen McNeil faces criticism from opposition parties with the province’s legislature being the only one in the country not to sit during the COVID-19 pandemic.
