Businesses in the province can no longer provide single-use plastic shopping bags with a ban on the bags taking effect today.
Stores can continue to provide paper and reusable bags.
And there are some exceptions to the ban.
Plastic bags are still allowed for meat and fish, bulk and frozen food.
Business are also still allowed to use plastic for bags to protect tires, for medical supplies and prescription drugs as well as for dry cleaning bags and flower wrap.
