Premier Stephen McNeil says COVID-19 testing equipment is being sent to Sydney next month so tests won’t have to be sent to Halifax.
It’s part of a plan to increase the province’s testing ability, with the aim of being able to process 2,500 tests a day by the middle of next month.
The plan will also see larger primary assessment centres that will stay open longer with more staff on hand.
Meanwhile, the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang is continuing to ask people not to gather in large groups on Thanksgiving, as well as on Halloween, Christmas or other social occasions.
Strang is also advising people not to travel outside the Atlantic Bubble for Thanksgiving but he’s reminding those who do they have to self-isolate for 14 days when they come back.
