Full Slate Of Candidates For Regional Council and Mayor

All 12 Districts in the Regional Municipality are being contested in next month’s municipal election with a total of 49 candidates filing nomination papers by yesterday’s deadline.

Seven candidates are running for the post of Regional Mayor.

Among them are Cecil Clarke who’s hoping for a third term in the role and Councillor Amanda McDougall.

Also in the running is 1990 Sydney mayoral candidate Chris Abbass, Sydney businessperson Kevin MacEachern and Archie MacKinnon from Little Bras d’Or who was an independent candidate in last fall’s federal election.

Eskasoni RCMP officer Gordon MacPherson and former Sydney Steel president John Strasser round out the list of candidates for mayor.

Regional Council will see at least a 50 per cent turnover with half of the 12 councillors elected in 2016 not on the ballot, this year.
