by A three-member independent review panel has been appointed to look into April’s mass shootings that killed 22 people.
It’ll be chaired by former Nova Scotia Chief Justice Michael MacDonald.
The other members are Former Federal Liberal Cabinet Minister Anne McLellan and former Fredericton Police Chief Leanne Fitch.
The review was announced today by Federal Public Safety Minister Bill Blair and Nova Scotia Justice Minister Mark Furey.
Furey was asked by reporters today why the two levels of government didn’t choose a public inquiry where people can be compelled to testify.
He says the province and Ottawa believe a review allows them to come to findings and make recommendations more quickly than with an inquiry.
The scope of the review includes RCMP actions, the gunman’s access to weapons and the role gender-based violence may have played in his actions.
The panel is expected to hand in an interim report on February 28th, with a final report due on August 31st of next year.
