Glace Bay Christmas Parade Cancelled

The Glace Bay Fire Department is cancelling the community’s annual Christmas parade.

Department Chief John Chant blames the ban on nighttime parades and the fact fewer firefighters are available during daytime parades.

Chant says the Department has to make sure fire protection takes priority and is promising to take its float to different areas of Glace Bay to do stand alone events with Santa.

Meanwhile, the North Sydney Fire Department is working to save the parade it sponsors after first saying it also had to cancel the event because fire protection takes priority.

Ironically, the Glace Bay Fire Department has offered to help provide fire coverage in North Sydney while members of the fire department there volunteer with their parade.
