by Auditor General Michael Pickup is warning in his annual financial report the cost of cleaning up the province’s contaminated sites could change significantly.
Pickup says estimates could have to be adjusted as the government carries out more site assessments.
He also says significant financial control weakness at the Department of Lands and Forestry has led him to immediately begin a performance audit of the management of contaminated sites.
The audit will be present to the Legislature in the spring.
Pickup says he also found significant weaknesses in financial controls at the provincial Health Authority, the IWK Hospital, the Department of Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services as well as Housing Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation.
