Early morning fire damages Haley Street Adult Services Centre

A building at the Haley Street Adult Services Centre in North Sydney suffered significant damage in an early morning fire.

The centre’s executive director, Debra MacLean, says Martell Hall was damaged in the blaze.

She says the building is home to a program providing leisure and recreational activities to individuals with complex needs.  The program is temporarily on hold as staff try to find alternate accommodation.

North Sydney Volunteer Fire Department Chief Lloyd MacIntosh says the building suffered extensive fire, smoke and heat damage, but apparently no structural damage.

Firefighters were called to the scene at about twenty after four this morning.

MacIntosh says the fire is under active investigation.

MacLeod says anyone who knows anything about the fire should contact Regional Police as soon as possible.
