Jaime Battiste wins Liberal nomination

Jaime Battiste will be carrying the Liberal Party’s banner into the upcoming federal election.

Battiste received the highest number of votes from party membership during yesterday’s nomination meeting, over fellow candidates Jon Yazer, Earlene MacMullin and Caleb Gibbons.

He’ll replace Mark Eyking on the ballot in Sydney-Victoria this October.

The Dalhousie law school graduate has served as a lead with Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewe and as a senior advisor for the Eskasoni First Nation. He also taught Aboriginal and treaty rights and Mi’kmaq History at CBU.
