CAO Calls For Better Labour Relations In Fire Service

The Regional Municipality’s Chief Administrative officer says better labour relations are needed between firefighters and managers of the fire service.

Marie Walsh’s comments came during a meeting of council’s Fire and Emergency Services Committee this afternoon.

Firefighters said last year they’d lost confidence in management, and the labour dispute has been happening as the municipality tries to find a new fire chief.

A recruiter will be asked to find a new chief after the municipality says it was unable to find a suitable candidate.

Walsh says some progress has been made in talks between management and firefighters, but she says a new chief is needed for all of the outstanding problems to be addressed.
