Davis Day Ceremonies At Miners’ Museum, Today

Davis Day ceremonies will take place at the Cape Breton Miners’ Museum in Glace Bay, later this morning.

An ecumenical service starts in the Museum’s Theatre at 10:00.

Glace Bay MLA Geoff MacLellan, Regional Mayor Cecil Clarke, and Nova Scotia Federation of Labour President Danny Cavanagh are among the speakers at today’s event.

The first phase of a new Miners Memorial Park at the museum is officially opening today.

The Park is dedicated to those who died in the mining industry and the 12 men who lost their lives in the No. 26 Colliery explosion in 1979.

Miner Bill Davis died on June 11, 1925 when police opened fire on a crowd of striking miners.
