New Emergency Department For Cape Breton Regional Hospital

Health Minister Randy Delorey announced a new emergency department, critical care department and cancer centre for the Regional Hospital in Sydney, this morning.

Delorey says all three services will be part of a new 190,000 square foot building to be built at the back of the Regional Hospital.

He says the new emergency department will be twice as big as the current one while the new cancer centre will be more than twice as big and the new critical care department will more than triple in size.

A tender for designs for the new building will be issued this week.

The building is part of the government’s Healthcare Redevelopment Project for the Regional Municipality.

It will also see the hospitals in New Waterford and North Sydney closed and replaced with community health centres that don’t have emergency departments.
