Chief Justice MacDonald Retiring
Chief Justice of Nova Scotia and Whitney Pier native Michael MacDonald is retiring later this week after 40 years in the legal profession.
MacDonald began practicing law in Sydney with what was then the firm of Boudreau, Beaton and LaFosse.
He was appointed to the Nova Scotia Supreme Court in 1995, becoming associate Chief Justice in 1998, and Chief Justice in 2004.
MacDonald led the creation of the Access to Justice Coordinating Committee that released a report earlier this month with recommendations on how to make the courts less costly and more efficient.
His last day on the job will be Thursday.
A permanent replacement will be appointed by the federal Cabinet based on the advice of the Prime Minister.
