Court documents reveal the lawyer for 30 year-old Christopher Garnier will argue his client’s mental illness should be taken into account in deciding his sentence.
Joel Pink says Garnier has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder brought on by the murder.
He’s looking for the minimum 10 year parole eligibility for Garnier while the Crown is asking for 16 years.
Garnier was convicted in December of second-degree murder and interfering with a dead body in the 2015 death of 36-year-old Catherine Campbell.
The jury found Garnier strangled Campbell and used a compost bin to dump her body near the MacDonald Bridge in Halifax.
