Three charged in beer heist

Three men from the New Waterford area have been released from custody on conditions after being charged in connection with the theft of 24 cans of beer.
28-year-old Cody Erin MacIntyre, 18-year-old Logan Edward Campbell, and 18-year-old David Edward Hemmings are charged with theft. Hemmings and MacIntyre are also facing charges of assault causing bodily harm.
The charges stem from an Aug. 7 incident at a residence on Main Street in New Waterford during which two people were assaulted.
All three were released after posting $5,000 in property to secure their release and agreeing to abide by a host of conditions that include having no contact with each other or the victims, refraining from alcohol and drugs not prescribed them, and reporting by phone, once a week, to Cape Breton Regional Police.
All three accused are to enter pleas to the charges Sept. 5.
