Government Plans To Close Hospitals in New Waterford and North Sydney

There are reports the province is going to announce the closure of the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital and the Northside General Hospital in North Sydney today.

The hospitals will be replaced with community health centres that don’t have emergency departments.

Meanwhile, an expansion to the Glace Bay Hospital and the Regional Hospital in Sydney is also due to be announced, today.

Premier Stephen McNeil and provincial Health Authority president and CEO Janet Knox are due in Sydney to make the announcement at 11:45, this morning.

It’s taking place at the Joan Harris Cruise Pavilion.
