Soldiers Are Back To Make Repairs At St. Alphonsus Church

A team of army engineers has returned to fix the roof on St. Alphonsus Church in Victoria Mines.

Soldiers with the 4 Engineer Support Regiment replaced the church roof last fall.

But many shingles were blown off in a series of storms.

The soldiers made temporary repairs to the roof and promised to return this spring.

They started the repair work on Monday and are due to finish by Saturday.

The community group The Stone Church Restoration Society is working to renovate the church.

It plans to turn the building into a wedding chapel, tourist attraction and venue for community events.
