First Day of Lobster Season in Eastern Cape Breton

It’s the first day of lobster season in Eastern Cape Breton.

Area 27 extends from Cape St. Lawrence to Gabarus.

The season runs until July 15th.

Fishermen are hitting the water today as people in Port Hood continue to mourn the loss of two lobster fishermen there.

39-year-old Hugh Watts from Port Hood and 58-year-old Glen MacDonald from Port Hawkesbury died when their lobster boat flipped over on Saturday morning.

18-year-old Elijah Watts was the third person on the boat and managed to swim to shore.

The Transportation Safety Board has sent a team to investigate the capsizing.
