Bill Briefing For CBRM Amendment This Morning

Municipal Affairs Minister and Sydney-Whitney Pier MLA Derek Mombourquette will hold a bill briefing on an amendment for the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, later this morning.

The government says the change to the Municipal Government Act will allow the Regional Municipality’s port development project to go ahead.

Mayor Cecil Clarke has been pushing for a Charter for the Municipality.

The move will allow it to approve land leases, including a 99 year-lease on the proposed site for a container terminal in Sydney Harbour.

The bill briefing is due to get underway shortly after 9:00.
