The McNeil government is going ahead with education reforms that accept recommendations from the Glaze report, including removing principals and vice-principals from the Teachers’ Union.
The changes will also see all seven, elected English school boards disbanded by the end of the month.
The government says the $2.3 million in annual board member stipends and expenses will go back into schools.
The Education Reform Act will also see school board offices renamed regional education centres and superintendents become regional executive directors, reporting to the deputy minister of education.
A new Provincial Advisory Council of Education will be created.
It will have up to 15 members from across the province, including a representative with experience in inclusive education.
