Bill Briefing on Education Reform Act, This Morning

Education Minister Zach Churchill is holding a news conference later this morning on the province’s bill to reform the education system.

The bill will be introduced in the Legislature today, but it’s not yet clear what it contains.

Premier Stephen McNeil says he sent an embargoed copy of the document to the Teachers’ Union yesterday.

The union is against recommendations in the Glaze report that include removing principals and vice-principals from the Teachers’ Union and disbanding elected English school Boards.

McNeil will only say the bill both reflects the Glaze report and some of the concerns raised by the Teachers’ Union.

The union executive is meeting this morning to discuss its next move.
