Man Charged After Police Chase And Damaged Cruisers Due Back In Court

A Mira Gut man charged with assaulting police officers with a vehicle is due back in court today to enter pleas to a number of charges.

47 year-old Brian Morris Benoit is facing two counts of assaulting police officers with a vehicle and two counts of mischief involving damage to police vehicles.

He also faces single counts of evading police, dangerous driving, resisting arrest, impaired driving, refusing a breathalyzer demand and driving while disqualified.

Benoit was arrested after police say the driver refused to stop when officers tried to pull over a vehicle on George Street in Sydney on January 20th.

Police say the chase ended near the Brickyard Road turnoff on the Louisbourg Highway where two police cars were damaged.

Benoit has been released on 20-thousand dollars bail.
