Chief McIsaac Recommends More Used Needle Kiosks

Regional Police Chief Peter McIsaac will suggest 15 new locations for used needle kiosks at this afternoon’s Police Commission meeting.

McIsaac was asked to look into the matter after it was revealed there are only eight needle kiosks in the municipality at the September police commission meeting.

McIsaac is recommending the extra needle kiosks go in Glace Bay, New Waterford, Sydney, North Sydney, Sydney Mines and Dominion Beach.

McIsaac says discarded, used needles are a safety matter that Regional Police get calls to deal with on a regular basis.

He also suggests looking into the option of having Parks and Grounds or Public Works employees trained to safely empty the needle kiosks as well as maintain them.
