by Regional Police have charged five teens with mischief in connection to smoke flares set off in the North Sydney Wal-Mart and Memorial High School in Sydney Mines.
Three are facing charges of Mischief over $5,000 and Being a Common Nuisance for lighting a flare inside the North Sydney Wal-Mart on November 6th.
A 17-year-old from Millville and 15-year-old from Florence both also face charges for Breaching Probation Orders and were held at the Cape Breton Correctional Centre to await a court appearance today.
A 17-year-old from Long Island near George’s River was released on a Promise to Appear in Sydney Provincial Court on January 10th.
A 15-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl both from Sydney Mines will appear in Sydney Provincial Court on January 3rd to face a charge of Mischief over $5,000 for lighting flares inside Memorial High School.
Police say officers continue to investigate the second flare incident at Memorial High and further charges against more teens are expected.
Meanwhile, the North Sydney Wal-Mart is now due to re-open tomorrow after it suffered millions of dollars in damage from a flare being set off inside the building.
