Regional Council Approves Deal with SHIP

Regional Council voted 12-1 for a deal with the Sydney Harbour Investment Partners or Ship to build a container terminal on the Port of Sydney also called Novaporte and Novazone.

Lawyer Jim Gogan unveiled the plan at the council meeting today of 431 acres of land in Edwardsville will go towards the building of a wharf and container terminal.

The third party assessment of the deal done by firm PricewaterhouseCoopers says the deal is a low-risk approach for economic development for the CBRM.

District 6 Councillor Ray Paruch was the only councillor to vote against the deal.

Mayor Cecil Clarke called the deal a “game changing opportunity”.
