Regional Police say they believe they’ve found the source of the flares used in two recent incidents on the North side.
They say a number of marine-use emergency flares were stolen from a business in North Sydney and some may still be circulating in the area.
Students were sent home from Memorial High in Sydney Mines after someone set off a flare this morning, and police say they later found a smoke canister similar to the one found after a flare was set off at the North Sydney Wal-Mart on Monday.
The flares can cause a significant amount of heat and smoke when used and could lead to fires or serious injuries.
If people see any of the flares, they’re being advised to leave them where they are and call police.
Anyone with information that can help identify the people responsible for lighting the flares is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
