Police Watchdog Rejects Claims of New Evidence in Clayton Miller Case

The province’s police watchdog has rejected what the parents of Clayton Miller say is new evidence in the New Waterford teen’s death.

The body of the 17 year-old was found in a stream near a party area in New Waterford on May 6th 1990.

Maureen and Gervais Miller held a news conference with their lawyer Ray Wagner in July to say members of Cape Breton Ground Search and Rescue searched the area where their son’s body was later found.

However, the Serious Incident Response Team says there are no records to show any search took place.

The SIRT also notes the Cape Breton Ground Search member who made the claim could be confused over a search on record later that month that involved someone also with the last name of Miller.

The SIRT concludes Clayton Miller was not beaten or killed by anyone.

It says the teen died from hypothermia and the unfortunate mixture of youth and alcohol.
