Former MP and Senator Allan J. MacEachen Has Died

Former Cape Breton MP and Senator Allan J. MacEachen has died at the age of 96.

MacEachen held a variety of posts during his career, including deputy Prime Minister.

He also handled the portfolios of National Health and Welfare, Labour, Finance and Secretary of State for External Affairs.

He was appointed to the Senate in 1984 where he remained until 1996.

He was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2008.
