Meanwhile, the price of diesel remains at $1.01.4.
The Provincial Utility and Review Board invoked the interrupter clause due to what it calls significant shifts in the market.
Analysts blame the increase in gas prices on a shut down of 31 percent of U.S. gasoline production because of Hurricane Harvey.
They also point to a spike in demand going into the Labour Day long weekend.
Some analysts say drivers could be looking at high gas prices into October.
The price of gas has gone up by 14 cents since Thursday on the island.
