Victim Identified as Jim Matthews

Regional Police have now confirmed the 54-year-old man found dead in a Sydney apartment yesterday was businessman Jim Matthews.

The Cape Breton Post reported his identity earlier after Matthews’s sister Donna Matthews-Hicks confirmed the death over Facebook after the immediate family was notified.

Matthews-Hicks says her brother lived with his partner Stephen Couban in Halifax and is survived by six sisters.

Matthews was the owner of the Prince Street Market and other local buildings and was attempting to boost the economy in the downtown core.

He also co-owned Matthews McDonough Financial Planning in Halifax.

Police say they’re investigating the death after it was found on Prince St at around 11:00 yesterday morning.

Police blocked off a section of Prince St. between Charlotte and Bentinck Streets for several hours after the body was found.
