Mother Canada Project Still Attracting Donations

Donations are still coming in for a proposed war memorial in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, despite the fact Parks Canada has not approved the project.

The Never Forgotten National Memorial Foundation wanted to put the Mother Canada statue at Green Cove, but Parks Canada decided last year its land wouldn’t be used for the project.

The Foundation is still accepting donations on its website.

The Foundation’s Tony Trigiani says they’ve never accepted Parks Canada’s decision not to support the project, and he adds his group is using donated funds to pay for an environmental assessment required by Parks Canada before the agency withdrew its support.

Trigiani goes on to say the money would be wasted if the site were moved.

Canada Revenue Agency Records show donations to the project went down to about 200,000 dollars last year.
