Police Suspect Fentanyl Has Arrived In CB Following Drug Raid

Regional Police are warning the potentially deadly opioid Fentanyl may have arrived in Cape Breton following raids on two homes in Glace Bay.

A 43 year-old man and a 32 year-old woman, both from Glace Bay, are due in Sydney court today to face a list of drug and weapons charges after Regional Police and RCMP searched homes on Cadegan Drive and Shaft Street last night.

Police say their search turned up over 7,000 pills with an estimated street value of 180,000 dollars.

They add the tablets believed to be fentanyl are being sent to federal health officials for analysis.

Police also say they seized a rifle, ammunition and drug paraphernalia in the course of the raids.

The two people arrested are charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in Fentanyl, Oxycodone, Methylphenidate, Hydromorphone and Dextroamphetamine, as well as Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm and Ammunition.

The man is also charged with uttering threats and several breaches.
