The Crown says a 31-year-old man charged with unlawful confinement in Richmond County is in custody in Sydney after a warrant was issued for his arrest, yesterday.
Justin Daniel MacLeod was arrested yesterday afternoon, after he failed to appear in Port Hawkesbury court.
He was due in court for a status hearing on charges of charge of unlawful confinement as well as a breach of conditions.
MacLeod pleaded not guilty to the charges in June but his case has been held up since he fired his lawyer before the start of his trial in December.
RCMP say MacLeod met a woman at a party in April and offered her a ride home.
However, they add instead he brought her to a secluded area of Richmond County and locked her in his family cabin.
Police go on to say the woman escaped after MacLeod left.
Cape Breton Regional Police arrested MacLeod the next day.
He had been released on strict conditions.
