CBU, Professors Ratify Labour Deal

Cape Breton University and the union representing its professors have ratified a tentative agreement reached earlier this month.

The university says its Board of Governors voted unanimously to accept the deal last week, while the Faculty Association supported the deal by a vote of 103-20.

The new three-year contract includes wage increases of 1.25 per cent each year, as well as clarifying the conditions under which layoffs can occur.

The university and the union had previously aired public disagreements over proposed contract language the union said threatened their members’ job security.

The tentative agreement this month came after the Board of Governors voted to fire Former President David Wheeler in December over concerns related to previous contract talks.
