Two Displaced After Snow Plow Hits House

Cape Breton Regional Police are now investigating after a snow plow hit an apartment building in Whitney Pier today.

A woman and her daughter were displaced from their home when the front-end loader crashed into the building on Victoria Road this morning.

No was hurt in the incident, but one corner of the building was badly damaged.

Police say they’ve seized the snow plow and a mechanical inspection will be done on the vehicle.

They add the Provincial Labour Department has been notified of the incident, and municipal building inspectors were notified to assess structural damage to the home.

There are reports the heavy piece of machinery lost power and its brakes as it was coming off Breton Street and merging with Victoria Road.

The stop sign at the end of Breton Street was knocked over in the incident.

Police say the plow belongs to a business on a snow removal contract with the CBRM.
