Cape Breton University and the union representing its faculty say they’ve reached a tentative agreement to end their labour dispute.
They add the deal still has to be ratified by both CBU’s Board of Governors and the membership of the Faculty Association, and both negotiating teams are recommending that the deal be accepted.
There’s no word yet on the content of the agreement, but the labour dispute centered on a proposed contract clause that the union said threatened job security.
Today’s announcement comes after the two sides announced last month they’d reached an agreement in principle on the clause in question.
An earlier tentative agreement was accepted by the Faculty Association but later rejected by the Board of Governors after former President David Wheeler was fired because of concerns over how the deal was negotiated.
As for the latest deal, the union and the university say more information will be released in the coming days.
