Victim of Fatal Fire Identified

The 59-year-old woman who died in the Boxing Day house fire in Whitney Pier has been identified through her obituary.

Barbara Johanna MacDonald was pronounced dead at the scene of the blaze at 46 Broadway Street.

A 50-year-old man was able to escape with minor injuries.

MacDonald had three children and four grandchildren.

She worked at the Holiday Inn in Sydney and was also a volunteer with Cape Breton Ground Search and Rescue and St. John Ambulance.

Her funeral will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday morning.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
