MacNeil Sentenced To Seven Years in Jessome Murder

One of two Glace Bay men charged in the death of Laura Jessome from Bras d’Or has been sentenced to seven years in prison on a count of manslaughter.

25 year-old Morgan James MacNeil was originally charged with second degree murder in the 2012 death of the 21 year-old.

He pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in September.

MacNeil will serve the sentence on top of other sentences for two armed robberies and crimes committed while in prison.

The time remaining on the other sentences amounts to just over five years.

41 year-old Thomas Ted Barrett is also charged with second-degree murder in the Jessome case.

He’s due in court next month to set a trial date.

Barrett is now serving a life sentence for murdering 19-year-old Brett Elizabeth McKinnon from Glace Bay.
