Whitney Pier native and Conservative MP Lisa Raitt is joining the race to become the Party’s next leader.
Raitt represents the Ontario riding of Milton and will officially announce her candidacy in Toronto, later this morning.
Meanwhile, she draws on her Cape Breton roots in a partisan YouTube video promoting her leadership bid.
Raitt was first elected as a Conservative MP in 2008 and served as minister for natural resources, labour and then transport under Stephen Harper.
The others who’ve officially joined the leadership race are former immigration minister Chris Alexander and Conservative MP’s Maxime Bernier, Steven Blaney, Michael Chong, Kellie Leitch, Deepak Obhrai, Erin O’Toole, Andrew Scheer and Brad Trost.
The Conservatives will elect their new leader on May 27.
