Membetou band senior advisor Dan Christmas is one of nine people Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has recommended to fill Senate vacancies, today.
Christmas is joining five women and three men chosen through a new, non-partisan process.
Under the new arm’s length process, Canadians were asked to apply to fill 21 vacancies in the Senate.
More than 2,700 Canadians applied.
Trudeau is poised to announce two more batches of Senate appointments within days to fill the remaining 12 empty seats.
When he’s finished, there’ll be 44 independent senators, 40 Conservatives and 21 independent Liberals.
