Storm Day Cancellations

School is cancelled for all students in the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board today as the Island still deals with flooding and high winds from yesterday’s storm.

Cape Breton University and the Marconi Campus of the Community College are also closed today along with Etoile de l’Acadie in Sydney.

The Regional Municipality opened three comfort centres last night for people affected by flooding and power outages.

The comfort centres can be found in the Grand Lake Road Volunteer Fire Department, the Reserve Mines Fire Hall and the North Sydney Firemen’s Club.

The provincial Health Authority says all hospitals in Cape Breton County will provide emergency services only, today.

That means some walk-in services and regularly scheduled appointments and procedures in Sydney, North Sydney, Sydney Mines, Glace Bay and New Waterford are cancelled, this morning.

The Medical Arts Building on Kings Road in Sydney and services at the offices on Townsend Street in Sydney will be closed until further notice.

The Health Authority says it will provide an update on the status of hospital services at around noon, today.
