by Both the Crown and defence are recommending a sentence of house arrest for a Glace Bay woman who pleaded guilty to two charges in connection to her boyfriend’s death.
In May, 28 year-old Christina Michelle Croney pleaded guilty to failing to stop at the scene of an accident and not offering assistance to an injured person in the death of Matthew Somerton.
The joint sentencing recommendation calls for 12 months of house arrest followed by another nine months of a curfew.
The conditional sentence would be followed by 12 months probation and a three-year driving ban.
Police say Croney was backing the couple’s truck out of the driveway after they had an argument, when Somerton opened the driver’s door.
They add he fell as he ran alongside the vehicle and was run over.
Croney left the scene and Somerton was found unresponsive.
He died in Halifax hospital in April of 2014.
The judge is due to rule on Croney’s sentence on Tuesday.
