North Sydney Landmark Being Demolished, Today

The former Western Union Cable office building in North Sydney is being demolished today.

Last month, owner Gerard Dugas said he wouldn’t go through with tearing down the Court Street landmark if someone bought it for 100-thousand dollars.

At the time, he said he reached out to three people who were interested in buying the building but had no luck.

He bought the building in 1988 and it’s been boarded up since 1996.

Dugas says he plans to sell the land as residential lots because the site is close to the Marine Atlantic ferry terminal.
