by Travel in the province’s woods will be restricted today as crews deal with three forest fires, including one that’s still out of control.
Natural Resources Minister Lloyd Hines made the announcement yesterday while giving an update on the three wildfires.
Hines says fires in Greenfield, Queens County and Maitland Bridge, Annapolis County have been contained.
However, he adds a fire in Seven Mile Lake in Annapolis County has grown in size from 90 to 140 hectares.
Hines goes on to say, starting at noon today, all travel and activities in the woods will be restricted, including hiking, camping, fishing, and the use of ATV’s.
People can still travel to beaches and provincial parks but trail systems will be restricted with signs posted telling people to stay out of the forest.
The ban is expected to be in place for a minimum of two weeks and also applies to any commercial activities on provincial Crown lands that will now require a permit.
A permit will also be required for those who need to cross provincial or private lands to reach their privately owned cottages, cabins or camps.
A province-wide fire ban remains in effect.
