by The province will release the first phase of its highway twinning feasibility study, this afternoon.
The study explores the possibility of using tolls to twin sections of eight roads throughout the province.
On the list is an 80 kilometer stretch from St. Peter’s to Sydney, and another section from Port Hastings to Port Hawkesbury.
If the government goes ahead with all eight projects, it would mean twinning a total of just over 300 kilometres of highways.
Environmental Consulting Firm CBCL Limited has been hired to carry out the study at a cost of about 900-thousand dollars.
Transportation Minister Geoff MacLellan said in May the government hopes to start public consultation on the process by the end of the summer.
