Work Continues On NW Hospital Sprinkler System

The Nova Scotia Health Authority says a contractor is now on site preparing to install a sprinkler system at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.

The project was planned based on the recommendation of the fire marshall, and a contract was awarded to Sydney-based Brilun Construction on June 27^th.

The project required 13 patients from the hospital’s second floor medical unit to be moved to the Regional Hospital, a move the Health Authority says was completed last month.

The authority says planning is now underway for work in the OR area, and surgeries will be suspended after July 8^th to allow the work to be done.

During Phase I of the project, the Diabetes Education Centre will be located on the hospital’s first floor, while visiting specialists and clinics, including the Well Women’s Clinic, will use the Ambulatory Care Department.

Phase I is expected to cost about 300,000 dollars and run until September.

A graduate of Breton Education Centre, Dave went on to get a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Sociology from Cape Breton University, as well as a Master of Arts Degree in Sociology from Dalhousie University. He has worked as a teaching assistant at Dalhousie, and in various short-term customer service and research positions.
