Keays Back In Court, Today

A 21-year-old Bedford man facing charges of attempted murder after multiple vehicle collisions in northern Cape Breton is due back in court today for a bail hearing.

RCMP say Daniel Keays deliberately ran into an SUV and two motorcycles in South Harbour, assaulted two bystanders who tried to help at the scene and later assaulted police officers while in custody.

On Monday, he refused to leave the holding cells to appear in Sydney provincial court on a number of charges.

He also faces counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, assault causing bodily harm and assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm.

The Crown says it will be opposing Keays’ release today over public safety concerns.

Keays does not have a criminal record and was once a promising young golfer.
